Rachel has lived in Newmarket for 30 years, and has known Newmarket well since she was an undergraduate at Cambridge University. She has worked as a lawyer for many years and she and her husband, racehorse trainer John Gosden, have brought up their four children up in Newmarket.

Having served on Newmarket Town Council since 2011, Rachel has been the Mayor 3 times, and was Chair of the Newmarket Neighbourhood Plan Group throughout its work until the Newmarket Neighbourhood Plan successfully passed Referendum in 2019 and was adopted.  This successful work has enabled  residents to have more powers to protect the world famous, unique and historic town which is Newmarket.

Suffolk County Councillor for Exning and Newmarket

First elected to Suffolk County Council in 2017, and re-elected in 2021, Rachel has been the Cabinet Member for Education, SEND and Skills from 2021-2024. She has overseen and implemented a wholesale review, reassessment and reform of Suffolk's SEND services as well as campaigning for higher standards of academic achievement for our Suffolk children, whilst supporting children and young people who require specialist services.

West Suffolk District Councillor Newmarket East

Elected in 2019 and then re-elected in 2023, Rachel has held various roles and has been a member of the Local Plan Working Group throughout its work from 2019 to date.

Rachel is also a Newmarket Town Councillor

Rachel is also a Newmarket Town Councillor and has been Mayor of Newmarket three times. With fellow Councillor, Andy Drummond, she conceived and implemented the very successful Newmarket Covid Community Helpline in March, 2020. This Helpline assisted countless Newmarket residents throughout the pandemic. Rachel also manned the Helpline every day for 2 hours during the pandemic. Rachel remains a member of the Newmarket Neighbourhood Plan Working Group and has been Chair of the Development & Planning committee 2023/4.
