Rachel has lived in Newmarket for 30 years, and has known Newmarket well since she was an undergraduate at Cambridge University. She has worked as a lawyer for many years and she and her husband, racehorse trainer John Gosden, have brought up their four children up in Newmarket.
Rachel retired as a County Councillor in 2026 and has served on Newmarket Town Council since 2011. Rachel has been the Mayor 3 times, and was Chair of the Newmarket Neighbourhood Plan Group throughout its work until the Newmarket Neighbourhood Plan successfully passed Referendum in 2019 and was adopted. This successful work has enabled residents to have more powers to protect the world famous, unique and historic town which is Newmarket. Rachel was elected Chair of the West Suffolk Conservative Association in June 2025.

Elected in 2019 and then re-elected in 2023, Rachel has held various roles and has been a member of the Local Plan Working Group throughout its work from 2019 to date.
Rachel is also a Newmarket Town Councillor
Rachel is also a Newmarket Town Councillor and has been Mayor of Newmarket three times. With fellow Councillor, Andy Drummond, she conceived and implemented the very successful Newmarket Covid Community Helpline in March, 2020. This Helpline assisted countless Newmarket residents throughout the pandemic. Rachel also manned the Helpline every day for 2 hours during the pandemic. Rachel remains a member of the Newmarket Neighbourhood Plan Working Group and has been Chair of the Development & Planning committee 2023/4.
