The Conservative Party ‘Whip’ was withdrawn from Matt Hancock MP in the week commencing 31st October as a result of his decision to participate in a TV reality programme (I’m a celebrity, get me out of here) in Australia. The direct consequence of this is that Matt Hancock MP is no longer a Conservative MP. Should the ‘Whip’ be restored to him at sometime in the future, he could then be reinstated as a Conservative MP.
The West Suffolk Conservative Association reiterates its extreme disappointment in the actions of our sitting MP Matt Hancock who, not for the first time this year, has effectively abandoned his WS Constituency, whilst taking his £84,144 Parliamentary salary (plus significant payments for expenses). Matt Hancock has acted against the specific instructions of his Constituency Association after having been requested not to become a contestant on the TV reality programme.
At this point in time, as he is no longer a Conservative MP, it is not possible to commence a process to deselect Matt Hancock as our MP.
