MARCH 2019 NEWSLETTER FROM

MATT HANCOCK MP

Here’s a snapshot of what's been happening in Westminster and West Suffolk

In Westminster

Banning pagers in the NHS

We're determined to bring the NHS into the 21st century - so we're banning pagers right across the NHS. Every day, our wonderful NHS staff work incredibly hard in what can be challenging and high-pressured environments, they deserve the very best equipment to help them do their jobs.  Email and mobile phones are a more secure, quicker and cheaper way to communicate which allow doctors as nurses ti spend more time caring for patients rather than having to work round outdated kit.

Making social media safe

I want social media to be safe for children. I welcome the commitment from Instagram to take down graphic self harm and suicide content. We're not powerless in the digital age. We have the power to act, to ensure the right online protections are in place, especially for the most vulnerable. People made this technology and it must be hewn to the benefit of humanity.  'll keep working to make the internet safe for all.

Proposal to upgrade the status of the A1307

Great news for Haverhill: I welcome the proposal to upgrade the A1307 from Haverhill to the A11 as part of the Major Road Network.  I know many of us in West Suffolk rely on the A1307, and will appreciate this much needed upgrade.  This is an issue I have campaigned on for several years, and I am delighted to see progress being made.

West Suffolk Energy Guide

We've had some spring-like weather recently, but winter is not quite over. In rural communities such as ours, many residents face increased energy costs as temperatures drop over the winter period. That is why I have produced an energy guide to help West Suffolk residents save money with their energy bills. I hope you will find it useful. Please download it here:  https://www.matt-hancock.com/campaigns/matt-hancocks-energy-guide

And finally, the Matt Hancock app is one year old

On 1st February, the Matt Hancock app was launched officially in February 2018 with a huge amount of media attention. Over the past year, the app have given me a fantastic platform to communicate with my West Suffolk constituents.  More than 10,000  people have downloaded the app, and the number of users continues to rise significantly every day.  This app is a real step forward in creating a digital community for all of us here in West Suffolk to discuss the issues affecting our communities and our country.
If you haven’t done so already, I hope you will download this free app either thought the Apple app store or through the Google Play store - just search for “Matt Hancock MP”.  Through the app, you will be able to be the first to hear my announcements and be alerted to news affecting West Suffolk.  But most importantly, this app will give you the platform in which to get in touch with me and the other users of the app to discuss the issues that are most important to you.
