MP's AUGUST 2018 NEWSLETTER

AUGUST 2018 NEWSLETTER FROM

MATT HANCOCK MP

Here’s a snapshot of what's been happening in Westminster and West Suffolk

In Westminster

SECRETARY OF STATE FOR HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE

On Monday, 9 July I was appointed Secretary of State for Health and Social Care. I have always been a huge supporter of our brilliant NHS, and it is a privilege to be joining at such an important moment in the NHS’s history and to work alongside the incredible staff across the country who work so hard. I gave my first speech as the Health Secretary at the West Suffolk Hospital.  You can read it here.

In West Suffolk

BUS SERVICE FROM HAVERHILL TO WEST SUFFOLK HOSPITAL

Great news – from today, Suffolk County Council is launching a 6 month pilot scheme to provide return transport Monday to Friday, 7am-7pm from Haverhill to West Suffolk Hospital. Rural transport and getting to hospital can be challenging for some people, so this is great news– the bus service will be of huge benefit to the residents of Haverhill. To book a journey with RIDE, visit www.bookyourride.co.uk or call 01638 664304 Monday to Friday between 8am and 4pm.

One Life Suffolk

OneLife Suffolk came to Newmarket to offer free NHS Health Checks, as well as weight management, stop smoking support, health walks and physical activity support for those living with long term conditions.  The emphasis on prevention is one of my top priorities, so it’s fantastic that OneLifeSuffolk is providing such a vital service.

OPENREACH COMES TO WICKHAMBROOK

I met Openreach Chief Executive Clive Selley in Wickhambrook on Friday. Openreach is working hard to get fibre broadband across West Suffolk. Email me at matt.hancock.mp@parliament.uk if you’re a constituent and I can help with your broadband.

Download the Matt Hancock app

The Matt Hancock app was launched officially in February with a huge amount of media attention. Around 10,000 people have downloaded the app, and the number of users continues to rise significantly every day.  This app is a real step forward in creating a digital community for all of us here in West Suffolk to discuss the issues affecting our communities and our country.
I hope you will download this free app either thought the Apple app store or through the Google Play store - just search for “Matt Hancock MP”.  Through the app, you will be able to be the first to hear my announcements and be alerted to news affecting West Suffolk.  But most importantly, this app will give you the platform in which to get in touch with me and the other users of the app to discuss the issues that are most important to you.

Tour of the Houses of Parliament

Would you like to take a tour of the House of Commons? Tours during the morning are free for groups of up to twenty-five people. I’m always happy to arrange tours, but please do allow three months’ notice, as they are very popular. Please contact me at matt.hancock.mp@parliament.uk for further information.  If you are affiliated with a school, then you might be interested in a visit to the Parliamentary Education Centre. http://www.parliament.uk/education/
