Volunteers were out on Newmarket High Street on Saturday 23rd August, engaging with residents on the forthcoming by election in Newmarket East. Our candidate, Robert Nobbs, is a well known businessman, who is currently a Newmarket Town Councillor. He lives in the Newmarket East ward and is the General Manager of one of the local hotels in the town. As a resident and an employer, he has a passion for improving things for residents and is already working hard to improve the declining High Street. He has recently had to refuse to turn his hotel over the SERCO to house refugees and is very angry with the way this matter is being handled by the Government and its contractors.
Tim Passmore, the newly selected Conservative Mayoral Candidate, came out to support the campaign, and along with the Chair of the Association, existing Newmarket East District Councillor, Rachel Hood, and other members of the Association, gave out lots of leaflets, gathered signatures, had an interesting range of conversations with all those who stopped to find out more.
The by election is on 11th September and there is still of lot to do to get voters engaged in the process. Anyone wanting to help Robert should contact the office or Ben Greening. We can do this if we all work together.
