Become a Councillor

Do you want to shape the future of West Suffolk and make a difference to our community?

This is your chance to stand for election to West Suffolk Councils and influence the many services provided to the community. We are seeking people who want to make a difference, from any background. We are an equal opportunities organisation and welcome applications from candidates from any ethnic, religious, non-religious, gender or sexual orientation. We aim to represent all sections of our community - so please get in touch.

West Suffolk constituency covers two local authority areas; Forest Heath District Council and St. Edmundsbury Borough Council. Both councils will have all-out elections in May 2019 when they will become one authority - West Suffolk Council. The Conservative party is seeking people who are willing to stand for the party and shape the future of the council's services.

The new West Suffolk Council will provide a range of services including leisure, environmental services, planning, regulation, waste collection, housing through our housing company and economic development.

Councillors receive an annual allowance (approximately £5,500 plus travel expenses) and are required to attend meetings, on average once a week, plus various ad hoc meetings and constituency work as appropriate. Please download the "Become a Cllr Guide" below.

If you are a 'doer' and support the principles of the Conservative Party and would like to make a difference at a local level, then please contact us.

Expressions of interest should be sent to the Chairman, Lance Stanbury at
