At the open primary held today in Mildenhall, Matthew Hancock was selected as the Conservative Party's Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for West Suffolk.
Matthew's biographical details:
Matthew Hancock, 31, is married to Martha and has a daughter aged 3 and a son aged 1.
He was brought up on a farm in rural Cheshire, attended Farndon County Primary School and King's School Chester, and now lives in London. He holds a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford and a Masters in Economics from Cambridge.
He first worked for his family computer software company in Cheshire, and then for the Bank of England as an economist looking at the housing market. In 2005 George Osborne asked him to advise him on economic policy, and he has worked for George Osborne and David Cameron ever since, rising to become Osborne's Chief of Staff. He manages the Party's Treasury Team, and advises on policy.
Now that he is selected, he and his wife Martha will make a home in the Constituency, where he wants to become a visible part of the community. He will give up his full time job to concentrate on West Suffolk, but will continue to work part time for Osborne on the Conservatives' plans for government.
In 2005 Matthew set out on foot to play the northenmost game of cricket on record at the north pole. He didn't make it to the pole, succumbing to frostbite on the Arctic Ocean, but he did succeed in playing the most northerly recorded game of cricket. He retains all of his fingers. |
